Welcome to your new Trezor hardware wallet. Follow these steps to power on, initialize, and protect your device so you can manage cryptocurrencies safely.

Unboxing and first steps

Your package should include a Trezor device, a USB cable, recovery seed cards, and a quick start leaflet. Inspect packaging for tamper evidence. If anything looks altered or missing, contact the vendor before proceeding. Keep the device unplugged until ready.

Powering on and connecting

Connect the Trezor to your computer using the supplied USB cable. The device will display a welcome screen. Open the official website and navigate to Trezor Start or Trezor Suite. Always ensure you are using official resources and never install unknown software.

Initialize your device

Choose “Create new” to generate a recovery seed. The device will produce a 12 or 24-word seed phrase — write these words on the recovery card in the exact order. Keep this card offline and stored securely; never store your recovery phrase digitally or share it. Confirm the words when prompted.

Set a PIN

Set a PIN that is easy for you to remember but hard for others to guess. The PIN protects against unauthorized access. Use a length and pattern that balances memorability and strength. Never write the PIN next to your recovery seed.

Update firmware

After initialization, check for firmware updates in Trezor Suite. Firmware updates include security fixes; apply updates only via the official interface. Confirm firmware signatures and avoid unofficial sources.

Using Trezor Suite

Trezor Suite manages accounts, sends and receives coins, and shows transaction history. Connect, unlock with your PIN, then add cryptocurrencies and generate receive addresses. Review transaction details carefully before approving on the device.

Safety tips

Keep your recovery seed private and offline. Use passphrases only if you understand them. Back up your recovery seed in secure locations. Treat your hardware wallet as the single source of truth; lose both device and seed and recovery is impossible.

Troubleshooting

If the device won’t power on, try another cable or USB port. If Suite can’t detect the device, update your browser and drivers, and ensure the device is unlocked. Consult the official knowledge base for persistent issues.

Best practices for long-term storage

For long-term holdings, consider splitting your recovery seed into multiple secure locations using reliable methods (for example, a primary steel backup and a secondary sealed copy). Avoid listing entire words in public or in photos. Consider a tamper-evident container and ensure trusted individuals know emergency procedures without revealing sensitive details. Periodically verify your backups and check firmware and app updates. Treat access credentials like critical documents and plan for secure inheritance or emergency access with legal.
